Academic Services provides targeted intervention and structured learning opportunities for students who may require additional assistance in accessing the BGS curriculum. Academic Services lessons can be individual or small group oriented and are designed to assist students in one of three areas – literacy, numeracy, and scaffolding learning.
Lessons are delivered by experienced BGS classroom practitioners familiar with the demands of the curriculum and the essential scholarly skills required by our students. The name ‘Academic Services’ captures the conjoint operation of the department, which is overseen by both the Studies Directorate and Student Welfare areas of the School.
The scope, availability and duration of Academic Services for students varies as it is data driven and responsive to documented needs. There is no single profile for students who access these lessons, as a small group lesson might typically include students at risk academically, those entitled to special provisions and elite sportsmen managing heavy training demands on their time.
