Drama

The Drama Department at Brisbane Grammar School is known for excellence in teaching and learning practice. Employing both contemporary and heritage texts, Drama is a highly practical and physically demanding subject that also enables students to engage with important social issues and critical theory.

The classroom experiences in Drama are carefully constructed to provide students with learning contexts whereby they are actively engaged in negotiating, making decisions and taking action, while developing essential skills in written and visual literacy, creative design and the use of multi-media. Drama enables students to explore and question texts and thereby, through the process of enactment, view the world from multiple perspectives.

The Drama Department provides students with opportunities to:

  • gain an understanding of the processes employed in the creation and execution of drama and theatre

  • obtain a sense of empowerment or agency through creativity and self-expression
practise and develop the attributes essential to leadership, collaboration, and resilience

  • develop personal and team-based skills transferable to a range of career pathways

  • employ a  diverse range of technologies and media to support and enable their learning.

Students are given ongoing opportunities to experience drama beyond the classroom, including through guest lectures and performances, collaboration with tertiary institutions and evening attendance at major theatrical productions.
