Brisbane Grammar School is at the forefront of best practice in teaching and learning in the middle years. In the Middle School, boys are encouraged to fully engage in all aspects of school life and to pursue personal best effort in a very challenging, motivating and fun environment.Opened in 2003, the Middle School offers a comprehensive educational program that responds to the developmental needs of young adolescent boys, building on the systems and tradition of excellence that are very much a hallmark of the entire institution. All aspects of our rich curriculum are designed to offer a positive response to the significant social, emotional, cognitive and physical changes occurring in young adolescent boys. Our boys in years 5 to 8 receive an education of the highest standard that inspires a passion for learning and prepares them for their eventual transition into the Senior School. We are proud to offer a purpose-built facility located within the grounds of the main campus where students enjoy an inviting and stimulating learning environment, working with the guidance of small collaborative groups of professional, highly qualified, dedicated teachers in all year levels. Members of the Middle School community also have access to many of the specialist facilities and resources of the Senior School which serve to further enhance the boys’ educational experience.Another distinctive feature of the Middle School is the strong emphasis on student welfare which has as its focus the critical nature of the relationship between home and school in pursuing the best outcomes for boys. Through both physical and program structures, students are supported in a thoughtful and friendly environment that provides individualised care. Our commitment to the sporting and cultural dimensions necessary for boys’ holistic development has resulted in quality programs in both areas that seek to broaden experiences, promote participation and develop skills. The sporting program is exceptionally well resourced, catering to the needs of all students from elite athletes to those seeking more recreational pursuits and operating in the spirit of healthy competition and true sportsmanship. This year is historic, with year 7 officially becoming the entry point for secondary schooling in Queensland. The change in 2015 has brought about a large increase in year 7 boys, with Grammar welcoming an additional 140 students to the school, bringing this year level to a total of 240 boys.
