Academic Facilities

Academic learning is Brisbane Grammar’s highest priority and its facilities reflect this. The Lilley Centre, opened in 2010, was driven by a vision to create powerful new 21st century learning experiences for our students. The Lilley Centre accommodates:

  • The Senior Library

  • The Forum

  • Flexible learning classrooms

  • Breakout learning spaces

  • Professional development library for staff

  • Experimental teaching laboratories allowing for the ongoing review and innovation of our teaching and learning practices.

The Lilley Centre is complemented by ample general classroom spaces throughout the School. Other specialist learning facilities include well-equipped science and language laboratories.

The Middle School has its own classroom precinct including a library, music room and flexible learning spaces which mirror the technological capacities of those in The Lilley Centre.

Cultural Facilities

A centrally-located Arts precinct serves the performing and fine arts. A spacious music building with air-conditioned practice rooms and a rehearsal gallery provides the ideal environment for music. The Centre for Art provides a strong presence for the visual arts on campus and reflects its important contribution to developing students’ creative thinking.

The Centre for Art has four studios, galleries for displaying student art and a number of specialist areas, including a well-equipped dark room for photography. A nearby theatre plays host to many school productions and drama performances.

Sporting Facilities

The School provides outstanding facilities for its sports programs. On campus there are tennis courts, cricket nets and two ovals as well as the Indoor Sports Centre which features:

  • A large sports hall with a multi-purpose floor capable of accommodating two full basketball or indoor soccer courts, three volleyball courts, or 6 badminton courts. The 1200 square metres of Canadian maple flooring is an A2 International standard surface affording protection to all athletes from high impact sports with its unique flexion properties. Concealed special fittings allow for the set-up of gymnastics equipment. A tiered grandstand, seating up to 300 people, overlooks the courts. The hall is used extensively throughout the day for Physical Education and extracurricular activities, while external clients book the hall in the evening.

  • Indoor cricket nets provide three indoor wickets contained within fully retractable netting and with a specially designed rubber compound surface, enabling coaches to use bowling machines and simulate wicket conditions at varying speeds.

  • A well-equipped Weights Room with commercial grade free weights, pin-loaded machines, lifting platforms and spin bikes, in addition to a range of supplementary training tools such as medicine balls, plyo boxes and TRX Slings. Specialised absorbent rubber compound flooring protects both the athlete and the weights. The facility is fully supervised by qualified strength and conditioning coaches and sport science graduates.

  • Two air-conditioned classrooms with the latest ICT and data projection technology. The sports laboratory houses the School’s fitness testing equipment and enables boys to test and correlate data.

  • A ten lane, 25m FINA standard swimming pool which is used all year round. The water is heated to 28°C and caters for a wide range of aquatic activities from swimming squads through to water polo, lifesaving and kayaking. A viewing gallery accommodates up to 200 spectators.

  • A purpose built gymnastics hall fitted out with all the requirements for Men’s Artistic Gymnastics. The equipment includes an Olympic standard fully sized sprung floor, vaults, rings, parallel bars, high bars, trampoline and a large foam pit area with dismounts from all apparatus. The gymnastics facilities in the centre are recognised as one of the best in the country. Up to 200 spectators can view proceedings from a viewing gallery.
