Brisbane Grammar School employs over 200 staff members in the core areas of teaching, administration, ICT, building and grounds, kitchen and cleaning staff. All staff, in each of these areas, play a valuable role in enabling the School to deliver on its educational commitment to its students across the three core school programs – academic, extracurricular and student welfare.
Over 100 teaching staff are employed on a permanent basis. We believe the cornerstone of Brisbane Grammar's program is the high quality of the teachers who the School is able to attract, a significant number of whom remain at the School for many years.
Apart from the Core Teachers in the Middle School who usually teach across two subject departments, the vast majority of the teachers at Grammar are subject specialists who not only have an excellent understanding of their subject's content but also an in-depth understanding of the pedagogical approaches and issues associated with their subject.
As part of our performance development program for staff, we offer a comprehensive induction program for new teaching staff which includes a professional mentoring program. We also offer extensive professional learning opportunities, both in-house and external, for staff. Recent examples include: the attendance by several teaching staff each year at the International Boys' School Coalition Conferences held overseas, where the results of action research projects undertaken at Grammar are presented; and our on-going professional relationships with leading academic researchers in fields such as pedagogy, psychology, literacy and learning space design who lead staff professional learning sessions and who also act as consultants and advisers to the School.
The School is committed to the wellbeing and safety of students in our care. All staff have a responsibility for student wellbeing and protection from harm.
