OBA President Message

It is my privilege to have been elected as President of the OBA Committee in April this year, and I look forward to working with the committee in developing the OBA to support of the Old Boy community and the School. I extend my thanks to Past President Stuart Rees and the previous committee and we look forward to building upon their good work.

The committee's immediate priority is to finalise a Strategic Plan that will support our direction for the next three years. It is a time for us to revisit our objectives and priorities and examine how we can become more relevant to the broader alumni, while providing ongoing support to the School. I am cognisant that we are currently in the midst of WW1 centenary commemoration activities, which are very relevant to the OBA and the 2018 BGS Sesquicentenary celebrations are around the corner and both these events will impact upon our initiatives. We were recently privileged to receive an overview of the BGS Strategic Plan from the Headmaster Anthony Micallef and the Executive Director of Advancement and Community Relations, Heather Watson, which have informed our own planning.

I would invite Old Boys and others members of the BGS community to provide me with their ideas and feedback in relation to future OBA direction and initiatives. Please email me at chris@chathamii.com.au

As my first official activity, I was delighted to present the 2015 inaugural OBA Teaching Innovation Award to James Gleeson for his work in the Maths/Science space. This annual award recognises the general excellence in teaching at BGS and encourages teachers to plan and develop innovative and novel ways to engage students in learning.

Please note that the 117th Annual Reunion Dinner will be held on Friday 26 August, 2016. This year we are including a special tribute to well-known Old Boy, former teacher, representative rugby player and coach, Alec Evans. Tickets will be on sale in a few weeks. I look forward to seeing you there.
