Donations have helped the School develop many of its outstanding learning facilities and provide life-changing bursaries for boys in financial need.
The School relies on the collective generosity and long-term support of its community to nurture future generations of BGS boys. Today we invite you to continue this proud
philanthropic tradition and donate to our 2017 Annual Appeal for bursaries and scholarships.
History of Bursarial Support
When established in 1868 under
The Grammar Schools Act (passed in Queensland Parliament in 1860) Brisbane Grammar School's specific legislative intent was to be a place of learning open to all. Since 1869, the School has a long tradition of providing scholarship and financial aid to facilitate access to a BGS education. This tradition of providing financial aid to well-rounded students whose families could not otherwise afford a BGS education continues today.
In addition to an interview with the Headmaster, or his nominated delegates, the School has set criteria for needs-based bursaries.
The School has set specific criteria for needs-based bursary holders:
- Maintain high academic standards and contribute to the wider life of the School.
- Exemplary standards of effort, progress and behaviour.
- Evidence of participation with the ability to commit to two GPS extracurricular activities.
- Periodic performance reviews and an annual assessment of needs-based status.
Our Plan to Increase Bursaries at BGS
The Board of Trustees has established a goal to increase the Bursary Fund from the current level to $20M by 2020. With the principal invested and preserved, the income generated is used to expand fee-assisted access for students.
How You Can Make an Impact
All individual donations to the Annual Appeal, regardless of size, will make a vital contribution to provide more boys with a life-changing opportunity to attend the School.
