This is one of very few medals in the School’s medal collection made of 15 carat gold. The Gold Lilley Medal was awarded to James Galt in 1895. He won the Silver Lilley Medal Upper School in 1893. James Galt (BGS 1891-1895) was described in the School Register as ‘very industrious and intelligent’. He went on to Melbourne University and subsequently became a probationer in the Queensland Government Mines Department.
