Old Boy Edwin Maurice Little (BGS 1906-1909) wrote a small volume of verse, Sonnets and Other Poems, which was published in 1923. In the foreword, Headmaster FSN Bousfield wrote that the poems reflected ‘the sane and cheerful optimism’ of their author. ‘None of them, except the touching sonnet to the memory of Sir Arthur Pearson, give any indication of the price that the war exacted from him.’ After leaving Brisbane Grammar School in 1909, Little worked as a teacher for a few years. He enlisted in the First World War and his battalion, the 15th, was one of the first to land at Gallipoli. He was blinded at Quinn’s Post in 1915.
