    Whirobo – Roe's Kamp circa 1890

This circa 1890 photo shows second Headmaster Reginald Heber Roe, nicknamed 'The Skipper', sitting with his wife Maud and children on the jetty at Whirobo, South Stradbroke Island. The photo is just one of many in the Roe family collection, recording fishing parties and beach games from the 1880s to the 1920s. Originally called Whirobo, renamed at some stage after 1890, Roe's Kamp is thought to have pioneered outdoor living and camping as an educational principle in Australia.
