Above the south entry of the War Memorial Library hangs the mounted 4-blade propeller from Cedric Hill’s (BGS 1906-1908) Tiger Moth. Hill’s photograph is in the central medallion. He crashed his plane in 1930 while attempting to beat Bert Hinkler’s solo flight time to Australia. Showing his daring nature, Hill had escaped from a Turkish prisoner-of-war camp by feigning insanity in 1918.
Serving again in the Second World War, Hill had operational commands with the Royal Air Force in Britain and the Middle East.
