What happens when you put all your literary icons in the one room with the offer of a mysterious prize?
Last week’s Middle School dramatic production, An Unlikely Invitation accompanied a young student in his tumultuous rush for the finish line, writing a story at the last-minute and inviting all his favourite literary influences to the table.
The narrative moved between the protagonist's brainstorming journey, a whodunnit mystery, hilarious musical theatre soundtrack interpolations, and back, proving all too real for many audience members.
“100% relatable and such a brilliant way to retell this experience.” – Student Review
As Sherlock Holmes valiantly attempted to solve a problem that didn’t really exist, the likes of Macbeth, Willy Wonka and a mumbling Frankenstein pled their cases. Meanwhile, Harry Potter went missing and Pinocchio wrestled with his identity - a most unlikely combination of events.
Fantastically bold acting breathed a new life into our favourite bookish characters, leaving all corners of the audience in stitches.
Engaging choreography, prop play and lighting effects made for clever illusions, and the witty original song selection made the story congenial for all ages.
With an on-stage energy that could not have been beaten, we cannot wait to see what these students do in next year's production.
Congratulations to the imaginative Drama team behind this highly entertaining script work, Mr Patrick Last, Mr Jeffrey Lewis and Miss Bella McDiarmid; as well as our brilliant Middle School cast for their poise, persuasion and bellyache-inducing conviction.
“My jaw is still hurting. I can’t get over just how good they were. These students have an unreal talent for the stage.” – Guest Review
