Celebration of the Arts
  • Students

A highlight of the Middle School calendar, the annual Celebration of the Arts event showcases our students' creativity through dance, music, design, literature and visual arts. The arts play an important role in providing a broad liberal education for each Brisbane Grammar School boy and the opportunities offered throughout their Middle School journey are endless.

Celebration of the Arts commences with the highly anticipated Year 6 dance. This year's theme was Modern Musicals and each class worked closely with our choreographer to prepare an energetic and fun-filled performance.

In the BGS Theatre, our community was entertained by a preview of this year's Middle School Dramatic Performance: 10 Ways to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse. In Centenary Hall, our Year 5 Choir, Chamber Choir and Vocal Group performed a range of musical pieces.

In recent years, Celebration of the Arts has evolved to include snapshots of our Signature Programs (transdisciplinary, collaborative tasks built around the design thinking process), undertaken by all Middle School students in the last week of Term 2.

Two new programs were featured this year, including Robots to the Rescue, where our Year 8 boys constructed and programmed robots to perform worthwhile tasks; and F1, where students raced their carefully designed gas canister powered cars to determine whose design was most effective.

Creativity comes in all shapes and forms and Celebration of the Arts is a wonderful vehicle through which our boys' talents are harnessed and celebrated.
