After graduating with straight As in all his subjects and a perfect ATAR of 99.95, Old Boy Elijah Wong ’21 was named Queensland’s top student at the QCE Achievement Awards in March 2022.

Wong received the Outstanding Academic Achiever award, while fellow Old Boys from the Class of 2021, Ethan Lee, Roger Look and Thomas Strooper, Ken Anulomsombat and Luke Liu were recognised as Distinguished Academic Achievers.

The Queensland Certificate of Education Achievement Awards celebrate the achievements of students and are calculated using a range of achievements banked in students’ learning accounts and some additional result information not available to schools.

Wong is now studying Medicine at Griffith University and hopes to one day make a valuable contribution to the community as an orthopaedic surgeon.

He singled out Specialist Mathematics as his favourite subject as it allowed him to think critically and challenged his ability to problem solve.

“My motivation to study was my love of learning and wanting to gain a deeper understanding of how we can effectively solve the challenges and issues, particularly in health, that we all face in today's world,” he said. “It is one of the reasons why I wanted to become a doctor.”

“My advice to other students is that throughout Year 12 you will face various challenges, so it’s important to have a support group around you.”
