Year 9 English classes have been visiting the STEAM Art Gallery exhibit this week to obtain inspiration for their short stories.
This exciting interdisciplinary opportunity fuses English and Art to develop design thinking, critical and creative analysis, and explore ethical reasoning.
Observations of the stimulus were followed by interactive brainstorming sessions in the STEAM Atrium, where students took to the whiteboards to collaboratively brainstorm their narrative concepts.
“One of the things we have to do is make our story relatable. Choosing the ape as the primary character for my story was obvious because it was the only thing that wasn’t human, and I relate to standing out.” - Christopher, Year 9.
Year 9 student Walter said, “I'm not very good at English, so I like having inspiration. Inspiration like a painting helps me with visuals and helps me to think about ideas to write a good story.”
Multimodal learning experiences like the STEAM Gallery Immersion promote increased engagement and are part of Brisbane Grammar’s commitment to deep engagement, balanced learning opportunities, and innovation.
This project has been made possible thanks to the generous loan of the artwork Perspective(s) from Old Boy Scott Breton.
