Grammarians’ Rowing Club News

The last six weeks have seen the Grammarians competing in a number of regattas.

The six-week Winter Racing Series finished up in late August with some exciting racing on the Brisbane river over a 4.5km course. Crews were entered in the pairs, fours and eights in both the masters and open categories along with a composite mixed quad with Centenary Rowing Club. While results were mixed, there were some good matchups with some of our rivals, which made for a very enjoyable series culminating in a club barbecue breakfast.

On the last Saturday in August, a Grammarian eight travelled to Maryborough for our first experience of the Bridge to Bridge race over 13km. This proved to be quite an adventure in what could only be described as treacherous conditions. Several boats were completely swamped while our boys held it together to finish as the second-fastest eight on the day.

Finally, we have recently contested the inaugural UQ Brown Snake Omnium on the Brisbane River comprising four legs (1500m, 1000m, 2000m, 500m) in a continuous race. Our crews were placed fourth in the masters eights, second in the open fours and second in the mixed masters quads.

On the social side, the annual Captain’s Lunch was held on 18 September which was well attended and enjoyed by all.
