ABC journalist and Old Boy Sean Rubinsztein-Dunlop '00 has been covering the humanitarian crisis resulting from the Ukraine conflict. Sean’s career has taken him to the Middle East, Africa, Asia and North America. Our thoughts are with Sean, and all affected by the unimaginable tragedy currently unfolding.

EY Recognition

Old Boy Dr Sean Parsons ’97 – CEO and founder of Ellume – has been named an EY Entrepreneur of the Year finalist. The honour recognises his vision, leadership and success in building Ellume into a global leader in medical technology.

Olympic Committee selection

Old Boy Brett Clark ’85 has been appointed to the Brisbane Organising Committee for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Brett is founder and Managing Director ePharmacy and Managing Partner Chemist Warehouse Queensland and Northern NSW. He is also Chairman of Queensland Rugby Union and a former Director of Queensland Ballet. Brett is a philanthropist well known for his community work.

Walkley recognition

Moving back to his hometown of Chinchilla in 2020, Old Boy Harry Clarke '07 established Country Caller, a multimedia news service advocating for rural Queensland. Country Caller has now been announced as a recipient of the Facebook Australian News Fund, which is managed by The Walkley Foundation. The fund invests in public-interest journalism and supports small, regional and digital newsroom innovation and economic sustainability.

Chief Student Entrepreneur

Old Boy Tom Bizzell ’19 has been appointed The University of Queensland Ventures Chief Student Entrepreneur. In his role, he leads and mentors student innovators to help them get involved in entrepreneurship opportunities. Tom has won multiple global start-up competitions.

Citizen of the Year

Old Boy Jeremy Hunt '16 is the 2022 Brisbane Young Citizen of the Year. With a team comprising other BGS and BGGS alumni, The VacSeen Project was established with the aim to facilitate free flu vaccination services for at-risk people.
