Queen’s Birthday 2020 Honours List

Several Brisbane Grammar School Old Boy and community members received honours in the 2020 Queen’s Birthday awards. They covered a broad range of fields, including service to medicine, education, law and community.

Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia

  • Mrs Margot de Groot – Past Parent (Geoff de Groot ’12). For significant service to the law, to professional legal bodies, and to women in business.
  • Professor Nicholas Fisk Past Parent (Angus Fisk ’08). For significant service to tertiary education, and to maternal-fetal medicine.
  • Dr Michael Redmond RFD Past Parent (Michael Redmond ’11). For significant service to medicine, to neurosurgery, and to medical organisations.
  • Professor Andrew Roberts – Old Boy ’78. For significant service to medical research, to haematology, and to cancer organisations.
  • Professor Jeanine Young – Past Parent (Dan Young ’14). For significant service to tertiary education, to medical research, and to nursing.

Medal (OAM) in the General Division

  • Mr Bruce Gibson-Wilde Old Boy ’55. For service to the community of Townsville.
  • Mr Richard Ireland – Old Boy ’77. For service to the community of Cairns through a range of roles.

2020 Queensland Great Award

  • Angus Lane Old Boy ’61. For decades he has been ring announcer at the Brisbane and Toowoomba Royal shows, along with regional shows, beef expos and equestrian events around Australia.
