Simon Conway appointed Head of Senior School

Simon Conway, newly appointed Head of Senior School at BGS, is a true veteran of the School.

Mr Conway has spent his 23-year teaching career holding various positions at the School, starting as a graduate Geography Teacher in 2000, to serving as a Head of Year for the past 12 years amidst undertaking acting senior leadership positions since 2019.

His passion for student wellbeing is what motivates him, and has seen Mr Conway consolidate his practice in this area throughout his time at BGS.

During his time as Head of Year to the graduating class of 2022, Mr Conway completed a Masters in Instructional Leadership with the Melbourne Graduate School of Education, a qualification that will stand him in good stead in his new role.

This is the first time in BGS history that the School has had the chance to appoint a senior leader in residence and Mr Conway is excited to move his family – wife Kelly, son and BGS Year 12 student Dylan and daughter Sienna – to campus this term break.

“There’s a significant opportunity to create a strong structural alignment around day and boarding,” Mr Conway explained.

“When you’ve got one person overseeing both, you can very deliberately, from a strategic and organisational point of view, align practices, values, beliefs and culture across both campuses.”

Going forward, Mr Conway plans to focus on meeting the evolving needs of students in both the day and boarding school through exploring new structures of pastoral leadership that enhance student wellbeing.
