Acknowledgement of Country
Brisbane Grammar School acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we learn, live and work – the Jagera and Turrbal peoples of Meanjin, and the Ugarapul peoples of Moogerah. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and future and to the culture and histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Indigenous Sites and History
In 2023, Associate Professor Ray Kerkhove and Professor Benny Wilson, Old Boy '02, both of the University of Southern Queensland, were commissioned to provide an essay which reconstructed the Indigenous site histories of the Spring Hill area, including Brisbane Grammar School.
“The site which Brisbane Grammar School now occupies at Spring Hill has always been a place of gathering and learning; a place of vibrant community and complex interaction; a place of deep spiritual significance,” the essay reads.
Their article encapsulated the presence of Traditional Owners on the site, which subsequently informed the content in the map which features in the museum in the School’s Heritage Precinct. The essay will also be used for educational purposes with our students.
