Creating Thinkers and Leaders
The academic culture at BGS celebrates effort and teachers encourage each student to strive for his personal best.
A Brisbane Grammar School education equips students with the tools to achieve individual goals and all-round excellence, now and in the future.

Fostering a Community of Lifelong Learners
Since it's foundation, the school has placed emphasis on providing a broad liberal education that enables students to become lifelong learners.
Building on this principle, the School has developed a method of teaching and learning known as Effective Thinking Cultures (ETC). In addition to mastering subject content, boys are given instruction in thinking skills, so they can strategically apply their knowledge and meet unanticipated challenges. Students develop the ability to recognise the most effective way to tackle problems and modify their thinking.
Educational Innovation
Effective Thinking Cultures
Effective Thinking Cultures is a research-informed and evidence-based approach to curriculum design and the way we teach in our classrooms. Focused on building classroom cultures, it enhances our students’ quality of thinking. Rigorously monitored by a team of specialist BGS staff, our processes have been independently validated by the Centre for Program Evaluation at the University of Melbourne.
Effective thinking and learning capacities are developed over time through a whole-school culture that prioritises intentional exposure to these skills. Ultimately, we aim to develop skills in our students that prepare them for evolving futures.

Effective Thinking Cultures empowers boys to take charge of their own learning. It lets boys thrive in and out of the classroom because their genuine curiosity drives them to analyse, evaluate, and make informed decisions in everything they do.
