Scholarships and Bursaries
Brisbane Grammar School has a long and proud tradition of offering scholarships and needs-based bursaries to boys who have demonstrated the potential to derive great benefit from a BGS education.
2021 ACER Cooperative Scholarship Testing Program
Online registration is CLOSED for the 2021 ACER Cooperative Scholarship Testing Program (CSTP) (Year 7 2022 and Year 10 2022 entry). Registration will reopen in late September 2021 for the 2022 ACER Cooperative Scholarship Testing Program (CSTP) (Year 7 2023 and Year 10 2023 entry).
Trustees' Scholarships are available to both day and boarding students looking to commence in Year 7 or Year 10. These scholarships are offered on the basis of:
- performance in the annual ACER Scholarship Examination;
- willingness to actively participate in and contribute to school life; and
- a successful interview with a member of the executive team.
Trustees' Scholarships offer either full or partial remission of tuition fees for day and boarding students.
A Trustees' Scholarship is a significant award earned by only a small number of students each year. Boys already accepted for entry retain their enrolment place if they sit the scholarship exam and are not successful.
Registration for the ACER Scholarship Examination is only available online.
General Excellence Scholarships
General Excellence Scholarships are offered to day or boarding students who have demonstrated distinction in one or more disciplines and can make a significant contribution in the academic, musical, artistic, cultural and/or sporting areas of the School.
A student applying for a General Excellence Scholarship must be willing to become a constructive and involved member of the BGS community and participate fully in all aspects of school life.
Applicants must be making sound academic progress at their current school. To provide independent evidence of this, applicants may be required to complete the ACER Scholarship Examination.
General Excellence Scholarships are granted following an interview with a member of the executive team.
A bursary is a special category of entry designed to ensure that a Brisbane Grammar School education remains accessible and that the School continues to fulfil its commitment to diversity.
A bursary is an offer of enrolment awarded to a boy who would derive great benefit from a BGS education but who, without financial assistance, would be otherwise unable to attend.
While preference is given to boys starting Year 7, applicants wishing to enter the secondary school at other year levels will also be considered.
BGS/Isolated Children and Parents' Association Bursary
The BGS/ICPA Bursary is offered to a rural or remote student entering Years 10 or 11. The bursary covers full or partial tuition and/or boarding fees.
The BGS/ICPA Bursary will be offered to a student with a significant contribution to make to academic, cultural or sporting activities at the School.
Indigenous Bursaries are offered, both in the day and boarding school, to students of Indigenous heritage who would derive benefit from a BGS education.
