The dark night skies of Lake Moogerah provide the perfect opportunity for star gazing. For many years Mr Doug Morrison, who taught at BGS from 1968-1999, ran the Astronomy program. In the late 1970s he secured a grant of $16000 from the School Commission Innovation Program to erect an observatory. Every Monday night during the Form 2 (Year 8) camp cycle Doug would drive up to Pepperina Hill and guide the boys using the telescopes. Jim Johnson carved into the concrete in front of the Observatory the phrase “Doug’s second home.”
