I was blessed to attend Moogerah eight times over the course of five years for Form, Writer’s camp, Music camp and as a senior to younger Forms. Those experiences enriched me with a lifelong love of nature, especially mountain hiking. I recall droughts and having to carry canoes halfway across the 14% full lake, sinking into the mud. I also remember racing across a full lake in first place, only to capsize metres from the shore. Orienteering and jumping off the gorge only to rupture my ear drum are other find memories. As an adult I've returned to the Scenic Rim with my wife and children yearly to reclimb Mt Edwards and Granville and simply play on the bank of the lake overlooking the campsite. We've also used these hikes as training grounds for Mt Kilimanjaro and other walks across the UK and the USA. Moogerah, with its Outdoor Education staff and the challenges they offered, gifted a sense of confidence through failure and success that I walk with every day in my professional and personal life. I feel indebted to Moogerah and will continue to visit with a sense of belonging and gratitude.
