The School has a fine tradition of playing rugby union for over 120 years with the first match dating back to 1887.

Rugby is a winter sport, with home matches played at the Northgate Playing Fields. Years 5 to 12 play in the GPS competition in term 3. Boys can also participate in the program as ball boys, touch judges and referees. Teachers and Old Boys are involved in the program as coaches and managers.

The School has won the GPS competition on a number of occasions as well as having significant representation in Queensland and Australian Schools Teams. Brisbane Grammar has produced 31 Wallabies, the most current being Stephen Moore (2000).

The Rugby Support Group is the Normanby Blues.

In season, further information including training times, squad lists, coaching panels and photographs is available to the BGS community on MyGrammar.

The Director of Rugby is Mr Philip Mooney
