Investing in Boarding at Queensland's leading school for boys
$5 million boarding redevelopment at Brisbane Grammar School
BGS Boarding is undergoing a $5 million redevelopment to provide leading facilities with an individual, modern room for each boy in Years 5 to 8 (Griffith House) and Years 9 to 12 (Harlin House). Griffith House was completed in 2020, and we are excited to announce that the Harlin House redevelopment will start in April, estimated to be complete in October 2021.
As Brisbane’s first secondary school for boys, Brisbane Grammar School has been a leader in education in Queensland since its foundation in 1868. Our pursuit of excellence extends to our ambition to be the best school for boys in Australia. To achieve this, BGS is creating world-class boarding facilities to complement our leading boarding program.
Middle School (Years 5 to 8) and Senior School (Years 9 to 12) boys benefit from the School’s state-of-the-art facilities, providing tailored educational and boarding environments for boys of different ages. Our boarders benefit from additional academic enrichment programs, extensive weekend activities and the lifelong connections unique to the residential setting.

A Brisbane Grammar School education provides the best start in life for the thinkers and leaders of tomorrow.
BGS is independent and non-denominational, embracing diversity and focusing on providing an education that creates the best start in life for the thinkers and leaders of tomorrow. BGS culture is distinctive, balancing the highest academic standards with a rich array of sporting and cultural activities. Our graduates attend the world’s leading universities, lead their chosen careers and professions and make their own futures.
School should be fun, and happy students are more likely to be successful. We are dedicated to bringing out boys' talents, widening their interests and developing their personal qualities. To do this we aim to cultivate integrity; enhance communication skills; embrace creativity; encourage teamwork; and promote an open-minded and outward-looking mindset.
BGS has consistently maintained its position as the leading academic school for boys in Queensland. The School has responded to Queensland’s new ATAR assessment system with a specially developed teaching framework, known as Effective Thinking Cultures, to give boys the skills to tackle unfamiliar challenges. The results of these efforts are evident in the Class of 2020’s exceptional academic results.
In a time of significant change in the world of work, a BGS education equips students with the tools to achieve individual goals and all-round excellence, now and into the future.
The School’s new STEAM Precinct – estimated for completion in 2023 – will be a physical extension of Brisbane Grammar School’s educational philosophy to develop critical, reflective and creative thinkers with the capacity and enthusiasm for independent, lifelong learning. The precinct will exemplify our commitment to being a thinking institution and will shape the way we educate BGS boys for decades to come.
