Since Brisbane Grammar School opened in 1869, cocurricular pursuits have played a fundamental role in developing well-rounded graduates.
The School provides opportunities for boys to engage in sport at all levels – from beginner teams to the Great Public Schools’ Association (GPS) competition.
At BGS, sport and activities complement the academic experience and provide important learning opportunities. With a focus on teamwork, commitment, discipline, setting goals and striving for personal bests, every boy is encouraged to challenge himself and try something new.
BGS has won many accolades and premierships over the years, and students are regularly selected to represent state and national teams in their chosen disciplines.
The School is a proud member of the Great Public Schools' (GPS) Association of Queensland. Boys in Years 5 to 12 compete in GPS competitions in Basketball, Chess, Cricket, Cross Country, Debating, Football, Gymnastics, Rugby, Swimming, Tennis, and Track and Field. From Year 7, boys can compete in Sailing and Volleyball, and from Year 8 in Rowing. Students are also able to engage in Fencing from Years 5 to 12.

The BGS community has a long-standing tradition of volunteering and many of the Cocurricular programs benefit from active support groups who enable the School's offerings, provide hospitality on competition days and support the work of program leaders.
