Application Process
For detailed instructions on navigating the Brisbane Grammar School Parent Portal, refer to the Brisbane Grammar School Parent Portal User Guide.
Completion of online enrolment applications requires payment of a non-refundable application fee of AUD $580 (GST inclusive) by credit card only.
After the School receives a completed application and the application fee, your son's name will be added to either the Enrolment List or the Waiting List.
Please get in touch with the Enrolments Office prior to applying if you are:
• enrolling for the current year, or any of the next three years.
• enrolling outside the main entry points of Years 5 and 7
• applying to enrol an overseas student – please also visit the Overseas Students section.
The School will seek confirmation of parents’ intentions to proceed with the enrolment offer up to three years before the student is due to commence in Year 5 or Year 7.
Entry at year levels other than Years 5 and 7 depends on availability, and you are encouraged to discuss this with the Enrolments Office before applying. Applications are assessed on the likelihood of the applicant contributing to and benefiting from all aspects of the School's Academic and Cocurricular programs. Applicants and their parents may be required to attend an interview (excluding Year 6).
Brisbane Grammar School welcomes applications from International Students (Subclass 500). Please visit International Students for full details on how to apply.
Brisbane Grammar School is committed to providing boarding opportunities for students from across Australia and overseas to benefit from a BGS education. Boarding is available at all year levels.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Enrolment List: This list guarantees a place at the School. Applications received early are typically placed here, securing an offer for the nominated entry year.
- Waiting List: Once the Enrolment List is full, subsequent applicants are placed on the Waiting List. This list is not ranked by application date; instead, all applicants are reviewed equally during the Waiting List review process.
The School makes every effort to offer places to Waiting List applicants as vacancies arise, which can occur as late as January of the intended commencement year.
In Term 3 each year, the School contacts families on the Waiting List for entry three years ahead to confirm their continued interest in enrolment.
At that time, you will be asked to submit:
• Your son's last two school reports
• Year 3 NAPLAN results (for Year 7 applicants)
• Any learning support or special needs documentation
• Details of your son’s cocurricular activities and achievements
The School conducts a Waiting List review and may offer places to selected applicants. Those not receiving an initial offer of enrolment will be considered again approximately 12 months prior to the intended entry year.
The Waiting List review occurs three years prior to the intended entry year and again one year prior to the intended entry year. Applicants who are unsuccessful in the first review will be reconsidered for an enrolment offer in the subsequent review. Final decisions are at the discretion of the Headmaster.
The number of places available varies annually, depending on cancellations from the Enrolment List.
Offers are made throughout the year as vacancies arise, and subsequent to Waiting List reviews.
The offer process for Year 5 and Year 7 Entry is completed three years prior to entry year, where the School will send a Headmaster’s Letter of Offer via Email. To confirm your son’s enrolment, you will need to:
- Complete the enrolment information in the BGS Parent Portal
- Pay the non-refundable confirmation fee by the specified date
- Submit:
- Your son's last two school reports
- Year 3 NAPLAN results (for Year 7 applicants)
- Any learning support or special needs documentation
- Details of your son’s cocurricular activities and achievements
- Keep your contact details (mail, phone, and email) up to date via the BGS Parent Portal
- Engage with the School through Open Days, tours, and events
- Promptly read and respond to all correspondence from the School
