On 30 May 1976, some 500 parents and students attended Pepperina Hill to celebrate its official opening. Headmaster Howell gave the inaugural speech:

It is my hope and the hope of all who have worked for this project, that we can add something more to the educational dimension of all Grammar boys who are fortunate enough to attend this camp in the years to come. We would hope that they will learn more about themselves and will better develop the ability to live with one another. We would hope that they will develop skills they might not otherwise developed and to undertake experiences that otherwise would be denied to them. If one boy can return home from a camp at Lake Moogerah and tell of the birds he saw on the lake at sunrise or sunset, if he has gained pleasure from bush walks or a sail on the lake, and if he believes that he is a slightly more fulfilled and better educated human being, then all that you have contributed will have been worthwhile and you will have contributed to our nation’s future as well.

- Maxwell Howell, Headmaster
