Come on, boys - it's time to kick on!

At a Term 3 Assembly, Year 11 students Caleb Kenward and Jed Siganto delivered the following speech promoting the Kick On initiative, which encourages students to donate old football boots for First Nations peoples.

The boys’ speech honoured the founder of the initiative, Old Boy Sean Forrest ’21, who sadly passed away in September 2025.

“The Student Reconciliation Action Group is once again collecting football boots in good condition. All donations will go directly to First Nations students at AFL House in Cairns.

The young people at AFL House will put your boots to great use, giving them the chance to play in many more games of footy. This marks the fifth year our Student Reconciliation Action Group has proudly supported this initiative.

This collection began in 2021, when BGS Old Boy, Sean Forrest, then a Year 12 student, first invited our community to donate. That year, Sean collected 55 pairs of boots to send to AFL House, giving First Nations students the opportunity to enjoy and participate fully in the game they love.

Sean was an extraordinary contributor to school life, and a great example of a Grammar Man. Sean embodied the true spirit of service and believed small acts can create lasting impact. This boot collection is just one example of his legacy, and it is one we are proud to continue.

Now, we’re asking you to be a part of this great tradition and to do something small that can make a big difference. Some young people love footy but don’t have the boots to play. Now that your season’s over, bring in your boots and let them kick on.

You can drop your boots to Mrs Thompson’s office near the stairs of the Centenary Building. These boots will be cleaned up and sent to AFL House in Cairns.

Your contribution will not only support young First Nations students who love footy but also help carry forward Sean’s legacy and continue to make a difference in the lives of others. Thank you for your generosity and support of this worthwhile cause.”
