For the first time in its history, Brisbane Grammar School has held a Scholars’ Assembly, recognising the outstanding academic potential of this year’s incoming Year 7 Trustees Scholars.

Students were selected for their exceptional performance in the ACER Scholarship Examination and received their certificates from Trustee Dr Julie Cichero.

The Inaugural Scholars’ Assembly also celebrates the 31 students from the 2025 Year 12 cohort who achieved 41 perfect scores of 100/100 in Senior across 9 different QCE subjects.

Three of these students, Benjamin Li, Shaun Li and Chris Zhu, were recognised at the Premier’s QCE Student Awards. Presented to just 42 of Queensland’s highest-achieving Year 12 students, the awards acknowledge exceptional academic performance and reflect the consistently high standards demonstrated by these young scholars.

The Scholars' Assembly was held in the Great Hall, a venue that represents the School’s academic history and tradition.

Deputy Headmaster Teaching and Learning Steve Uscinski said the Great Hall was the perfect setting for the occasion, noting the accolades strengthen connections with recent Old Boys and reinforce academic aspiration among students.

“The Great Hall Honour Board records the history of the school’s leading academic achievers, including the recipients of the Lilley Gold Medal for Dux of the School dating back to 1869 and the names of the 26 Rhodes Scholars who attended BGS,” Mr Uscinski said.

He also noted the history of the School’s two sets of colours, Red and Gold and Oxford and Cambridge Blue, highlighting their symbolism.

“Red and Gold were introduced by Thomas Harlin, our first Headmaster from 1869 -1876 and are now used as the academic colours,” he said.

“These were the colours of Peterhouse College at Cambridge, from which Harlin graduated.

“Oxford and Cambridge Blue were the sporting colours introduced by Reginald Heber Roe, our second Headmaster from 1876-1909 and are now used as our formal school colours.”
