The National Squad assists swimmers who are fully committed to achieving the highest possible performance at Australian and International competitions.

Swimmers in this squad must attend eight to nine sessions per week. These swimmers have access to a comprehensive dry-land program that includes musculo-skeletal screening, individually tailored strength and conditioning and yoga classes.

Individual practice requirements are determined by the Head Coach based on age, training background and ability.

Swimmers are invited by the Head Coach, in consultation with the National Development Squad Coach to be a member of this squad.

Squad re-selections are ongoing throughout the year.

The National Development Squad assists swimmers to develop all aspects of stroke technique, fitness levels and race skills to prepare for competitions.

The State Squad caters primarily for swimmers aged 13 to 16 years who are working towards performing at the Australian Age Championships.

Swimmers must attend 6 sessions per week and build up to seven sessions per week depending on their age and ability.

These swimmers have access to a comprehensive dry-land program that includes musculo-skeletal screening, individually tailored strength and conditioning prescription.

The State Development Squad assists swimmers in their transition from the Junior Squad with all aspects of stroke technique, fitness levels and race skills to prepare for all competitions.

The State Development Squad caters for swimmers aged primarily 11 years and over who are working towards qualifying and early development for the Queensland State Championships, as well as for multi-sport swimmers who cannot attend the minimum requirement for the National Development Squad.

Swimmers wanting to progress through the squad pathway begin attending four sessions per week and build up to six sessions per week hours), depending on their age and ability.

The Junior Development squad provides opportunities for swimmers to develop all aspects of stroke technique, fitness levels and race skills to prepare for competitions.

Junior Development caters primarily for children aged nine to 11 years who are swimming at a competitive level.

Swimmers begin attending three sessions per week and build up to five sessions per week depending on their age and ability.

The Micro Squad provides a transition between learn-to-swim lessons and squad practice.

Swimmers generally complete a minimum of one session and up to three sessions per week.

Intra-club and specific junior competitions are available for Micro Squad swimmers.

The BGS Swimming Program values community and provides an opportunity for parents of swimmers to swim within the program.

We offer coaching to Masters Swimmers of abilities ranging from basic, technique focused to endurance event competitors (English Channel)

Furthermore, squad fees collected from Masters Swimmers will be used to initiate the BGS Swimming Athlete Support Program. The BGS Swimming Athlete Support Program will provide financial assistance to athletes who have proven potential as competitive swimmers and may not have access to the high standard of facilities and coaching that are available at the BGS Swimming Club.
